Cactus spines are their leaves, reduced and rolled up, so I hope you didn't eat those. The green parts of cacti are usually the stem, but in prickly pears (Opuntia) they seem to be called a pad.http://www.cactusmuseum.com/anatomy.asp
Maybe college porters should install such signs to disarm drunken grass clambering students...its so much better than the usual ones
Knew you'd come through on cacti Laura! Pad is a good word for them, I think.Bella - quite. I don't think I can ever bear to walk on grass again...I did actually avoid the football field this morning, though I'm not sure that grass is smiling slightly, or at all.
